The Roanoke Valley Choral Society was formed in 1974 with the merger of the former Roanoke Valley Chorus and the Virginia Choral Society. For 50 years, the Roanoke Valley Choral Society has performed to the delight of audiences in the Roanoke Valley and beyond. The Choral Society has had the pleasure of performing with various local groups and artists including the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, at the Bonsack Baptist Church concert with composer Dan Forrest, and at Dickens of a Christmas in downtown Roanoke.
RVCS is a qualified not-for-profit organization (EIN# 52-1211703) that is funded by the generous donations of patrons, by revenues generated from sale of advertisements, and by free-will donations collected at each performance.
No admission is charged for RVCS performances.
Revenues are used for payment to creative staff (conductor, accompanist, and guest instrumentalists or soloists), publicity for our performances, printing and administrative expenses, and rent for rehearsal and concert venues. Other than creative staff, all individuals associated with RVCS are volunteers, donating their time and talents.
Patricia Trail, Salem native and graduate of Roanoke College, has performed as a soloist around the state of Virginia for many years. Since 1981, she has conducted choral groups in the church setting, serving ages three to ninety-three! Mrs. Trail studied under vocal instructor Angharad Sinclair and choral directors, William G. Snyder, Dr. Frank Williams, Dr. Donald Moe, Dr. Kenneth Kirk, and has received summer instruction from Dr. Rene Clausen.
Having served three local churches, Patricia has been with First Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Roanoke, since 2001 and was appointed Music Director in 2006.
Mrs. Trail is humbled and honored to follow in the footsteps of her mentor, William G. Snyder, who instilled in her a love for, and gave her the tools to make choral music.
